How do I get started?

Ready to have us file your taxes? Here's what you need to do!

Why can’t I just send you my spreadsheet instead of filling out the "Self Employed" tab?

Filling out the Self Employed tab on the Brass Taxes website ensures that you and your advisor are starting from the same place when it comes to your income and expenses. It's the easiest way to get your information to us, and it helps keep your appointment smooth and simple. Pulling information from a personal spreadsheet can be complicated and time-consuming, and we'd have to charge significantly more if we worked that way. The Self Employed tab helps us capture all your business expenses quickly and accurately, so we can get you the best possible tax results and have time to cover your big-picture questions in the tax appointment.

What tax forms should I upload?

To complete your tax return, we'll need to see the tax forms you may have received throughout the year. The most secure way to get us these forms is to use the UPLOADS section of your Brass Taxes tax return profile. We do not recommend emailing tax forms, especially any forms that include your Social Security number. You should receive most of these forms by the end of January or early February, although it's not uncommon to receive brokerage statements as late as March.

How do I pay Brass Taxes?

Our preferred payment method is Zelle, primarily because it doesn't cost anything to use (either for you or for us).

How do I get a copy of my tax return without password protection?

In order to keep your data secure, we always send your tax return as a password-protected file. We do not ever recommend emailing an unprotected version of your tax return to anyone.

What to do if I'm feeling unsure about my return?!

We get it. Taxes are a big deal, your taxes are a big deal. We want you to feel confident in working with us so we've created the Third Opinion offer... and it's free.
