We know you already know this, but we do wanna say that protecting your data is important and we take it really seriously on our end. Generally, we would encourage you not to send copies of your tax return out via email without password protection because there's A LOT of info in there that could be used by jerks to steal your identity.

But we also understand, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

So, here are some ways you can create a PDF of your tax return without the password-protection we add when we send it over.

On a Mac

• Open the PDF we sent you in Preview

• Enter the password

• Then you have two options:

  • In the File Menu, choose "Export as PDF" and save it

  • Or click "Print" and then drop-down the little PDF menu to select "Save as PDF" and save it

• If you use the same file name to save it in the same place as the password-protected version, you'll be asked if you want to overwrite the original file, say "Yes"

You're all set!

On a PC

It's pretty much the same thing as for people on a Mac, but there isn't a single program everyone on PCs uses.

• Open the PDF we sent you in a program where you can view the PDF

  • The easiest programs to do this from is Chrome

• Once you have the file open, click the "Print" button (or select it in the appropriate menu)

• Once you have the Print window/options open:

  • In Chrome, simply choose "Save as PDF" and save the file

  • In other programs, if a similar option is not available, choose "Microsoft Print to PDF" as the printer and then save the file

• If you use the same file name to save it in the same place as the password-protected version, you'll be asked if you want to overwrite the original file, say "Yes"

Voilà! No password.
